WHAT IS ACCREDITATION AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Accreditation is the official recognition by the National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) and constitutes their "mark of excellence."

To become accredited, a senior center must meet the following nine stringent standards:

1.  Purpose

2.  Community

3.  Program Planning

4.   Evaluation

5.  Fiscal Management

6.  Governance

7.  Administration and Human Resources

8.  Records and Reports

9.  Facility

Accreditation status was recently bestowed on the SJCCOA Coastal Community Center, one of only eight senior centers in the state of Florida and 139 in the entire nation to receive such an honor.
